I'm always on the look out for collections of references and resources that pertain to period armor. I came across this post the other day, by Sigrith inn Danske, on how to start putting together a 14th century starter kit for new fighters or people on a budget. It's a good PDF to review if this time period suits your fancy, or if you are just starting to get a kit together in general. She includes several pictures and some handy websites that provide some pretty solid information on the subject.
She has invited input and additions to this document, so if you have any good resources please post a few here to help aid in the collection of information on this subject. The best thing we can do within our community is create documents like these to help newer members gain access to the information they need to build period kits. This way we can raise our visual armor standards by getting fighters into armor and looking great early on in their fighting careers.
